About Ashish J Mathew
Ashish J. Mathew, MD, is a physician–scientist specializing in the care of patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, including psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus. Dr. Mathew’s research focuses on improving the understanding, diagnosis and management of psoriatic disease and spondyloarthritis, with particular emphasis on advanced imaging—especially MRI—in inflammatory arthritis and the epidemiology of rheumatic diseases. He is committed to patient-centered care and approaches treatment as a partnership grounded in trust, respect and shared decision making.
He received his medical degree from Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, India, completed residency training in internal medicine at Government Medical College, Trivandrum, and fellowship training in rheumatology at CMC Vellore. He subsequently pursued clinical research training at the University of Toronto and earned his PhD from the University of Copenhagen.
Prior to joining the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, Dr. Mathew served as professor of clinical immunology and rheumatology at CMC, Vellore, one of India’s leading academic medical centers. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and collaborates with international research groups focused on psoriatic arthritis and spondyloarthritis.
